Sherry has always had a love of animals for as long as she can remember. However, except for a cocker spaniel named Skippy and a budgie named Peter, there was limited opportunity to really nurture this affection growing up. As an adult though, there have always been animals under her care. In addition to having at least two cats at a time, there has been a miniature poodle and an Irish Setter who joined her clan at different times throughout her adult life.
Today, Sherry shares her South Ottawa home with her husband, several cats and two miniature schnauzers (her “boys”). Since acquiring her two “boys”, Sherry has come to realize the strength of her love and fascination for dogs and their behaviour.
Her strong desire for a career change and her deep affection and concern for dogs and their environment led her to the Professional Dog Trainers course at Canadian Canine Training Academy. She was already familiar with the successful results of the methods of training used at Canadian Canine having sent her own dog to the Academy for training several years ago and being amazed with the results.
By successfully completing the Canadian Canine Training Academy's professional dog trainers course, Sherry is now able to help and educate dog owners on how to develop the natural instincts and abilities of their dogs so that owners and canine companions can live in harmony together.
Having spent all of her career in the “business world”, Sherry’s experience working in a learning environment the last ten years compliments her abilities as a dog trainer. Sherry has completed several train-the-trainer courses, and is a certified Instructional Designer/Developer. She has also completed a Business Management certification through Algonquin College’s Ontario Management Development Program, as well as some St. Francis Xavier modules towards a certificate in adult education. She has developed the strength of her interpersonal, communication and leadership skills throughout her business career by attending workshops, seminars and through self-learning.
An advocate of life-long learning, Sherry is currently continuing her education and knowledge of dog psychology and behaviours through her enrollment in the International Correspondence School's Professional Dog Trainer/Instructor program. She also continues to improve her knowledge about dog behaviour through self-learning, seminars, reading books, as well as through her personal interaction with dog owners and their pets.
What my clients are saying:
"We would like to thank you for helping us gain control of our Boston Terrier Mix. We were so exasperated by her out of control behaviour (jumping, barking, chewing, etc...) that we were considering bringing Daisy back to the pound or even worse, have her put down because we didn't want another family to go through what we were going through. But after working with you through the basic obedience training we have seen a dramatic improvement with Daisy. She responds well to the commands (watch, sit, stay, etc.) that have been taught to her and she has gained much needed respect for her home and the people who surround her. She no longer runs us. Quite the opposite, we are now back in control through the simple and basic techniques you have taught us. So again, many thanks for your guidance, helpful advice and recommendations. We would strongly recommend your services to anyone with any type of problems with the canine companion. Sincerely, Chantal D. and Family"
"Hi Sherry, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your help with Skye. We called Canadian Canine to arrange help with behaviour issues that Skye was displaying. We were impressed with your knowledge of the issue at hand as well as with the strategies you gave us. You showed us areas where we were not being consistent as well as how to regain control. The patience you had with the humans in the household did not go unnoticed and we appreciate that too... We would be happy to recommend you to anyone that needed help with their dog and if you need a reference please give us a call. Thanks to you we have things back to normal again! Sandra & Charlie B."

The purpose of the evaluation is for us to determine what the cause of your dog's behaviour is, so we can make recommendations on what needs to be done to help you meet your training goals. Because all dogs are not the same, their problems and causes for problems will vary, and so will the treatment, depending on the nature of the dog's behaviour. All dogs are evaluated prior to training to ensure you get the best results possible. This process is quite simple. First click on the Free Training Evaluation and submit the information required. The trainer will review the information to get a good idea of your case. The trainer will then contact you to make an appointment to meet with you and your dog. When the trainer has evaluated your dog's temperament, you will be provided with a signed copy of your evaluation, complete with comments and recommendations for training. |
